Read to Self: Students read books independently to build stamina
Read to someone: Students read out loud with a partner to build fluency and reading skills
Listen to Reading: Students use iPads to listen to books, or use apps that target a reading/writing skill we are working on in class
Word Work: Students practice their weekly spelling words by stamping them, spelling with beads, writing them in sentences or getting on Spelling City
Work on Writing: Students do writing activities independently
Each week, students get a new spelling list of 16 words that all have a common spelling theme. When they take their test on Friday, there are always 4 "bonus" words. These words come from other areas of study (math, science, religion, etc) and are vocabulary words they have practiced during the week.
Students graph their spelling weekly and keep track of their progress.
