1st Grade Music
March is “Music In Our Schools” month! The students at All Saints are opening up their music classes to parents and relatives with musical talent. If you are a family member of an All Saints student with a musical gift, we would love for you to share it with us! Between the dates of March 3rd-10th, you may come to your students music class to give a 10-15 minute presentation of your musical talent, how you started your talent, and when you started. The link to sign up is posted on Ms. Wagner's portion of the All Saints website. When you get there, choose the appropriate grade that you would like to share with. Please enter your name, the name of your student, your musical talent, and then please choose a date and time that works best for you. We would love to have you! Below is the link to sign up:
We are also opening up our music classrooms to relatives and friends from across the country with musical talent. Simply ask your friend or relative to video themselves giving their presentation, and email it to Ms. Wagner. The videos will be shown to students during music class. We received some great videos last year. It is an amazing opportunity for students to see musicians from around the country. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Wagner. Thank you for your continued support of music in our schools!
During the month of February, the All Saints students participated in a keyboard lab during Music Class. Students were able to learn and explore the organization of the keyboard, while mastering several keyboard songs. They were also able to compose original pieces using different instrument sounds and drum beats that were programed into the keyboards. This unit is part of the Cedar Rapids Metro Catholic Schools fine arts courses. The keyboards rotate between the elementary schools during the school year. It is a great opportunity for students to learn basic keyboard skills!
During the months of April and May, the students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade participate in a program entitled Mallet Madness. This program utilizes mallet instruments, drums, and other non-pitched percussion instruments to introduce mallet skills and reinforce musical concepts such as beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, and form. Each student gets to experience all of the mallet instruments and drums in the classroom.
